Solar Panel Installer Training and European Certification
A Growing Field, a bright future – join the experts in solar energy with a European qualification
REDU Edu Oy launched solar power plant installer training at the beginning of 2024. In early 2025, we also built a dedicated learning environment for solar panel installation. In spring 2025, we received certification that allows us to grant a European-level certificate for rooftop solar panel installations.
The solar energy sector is closely tied to the energy transition happening across Europe, where fossil fuels are being phased out. This shift brings an urgent need for new workforce and expertise.
With the EU Energy Efficiency Directive coming into force in spring 2024, all new detached houses must have solar panels installed if technically feasible. This regulation introduces significant changes and growing demands for skills, especially in solar energy system installations.
Gain the skills – unlock new career opportunities
Training and the use of solar electricity have so far been relatively limited in Finland. However, the use of renewable energy is set to increase significantly in line with the national energy and climate strategy and the government programme. The goal is for renewable energy to account for at least 51% of final energy consumption by 2030.
Fundamentals and Installation of Solar Power Systems – 450 hours
Training for a career in solar energy
This training offers a comprehensive introduction to the world of solar electricity, teaching the fundamentals of how solar power systems work, as well as the practical aspects of their design and installation.
Who is this for?
The training is intended for individuals interested in working with the installation of solar power systems but who lack prior education or work experience in the field.
What does the training include?
The training covers various aspects of planning, dimensioning, and installing solar power systems. It also includes essential safety practices and industry standards to ensure installations are carried out safely and efficiently.
Installation of Solar Panels and Electrical Systems – 80 hours
Advanced training for independent work in solar installations
This training provides in-depth fundamentals for installing solar power systems. After completing the course, participants will be able to work independently in solar system installation tasks.
Who is this for?
The training is intended for individuals who already have basic knowledge of solar panel and solar power system installation but need additional expertise to work independently in the field. The target group includes those with a qualification in the electrical or construction sector or with equivalent experience.
European Certification Completion – 20 hours
European Certification for Solar Panel Installers
In the future, solar panel installation will require a successfully completed European certification.
REDU Edu Oy, in collaboration with EiT Innoenergy, awards the European certification to solar panel installers who pass the examination.
Certification Process
The certification process takes 20 hours and consists of the following parts:
-
Design of the assessment and written exam
-
Practical installation work and submission of the work

Demand is Increasing, Shortage of Experts – Solar Power Needs Skilled Workers
The solar power plant sector is still in the early stages of development in Finland, with many "wild" operators in the field and varying quality of workmanship.
"A significant issue was found in 60% of the sites. About one in four systems had been installed, at least partially, by someone other than an electrical installer."
(Tekniikka & Talous. (2025). Solar Power in Households: A Survey of 60 Sites Reveals Systematic Issues.)
European Solar Academy InnoEnergy is authorized to standardize the solar energy sector’s expertise to address skill challenges across Europe. To improve professional skills and work quality, it is estimated that around 65,000 workers will be needed in the solar power sector across Europe in the coming years.
In Finland, the need is estimated to be between 2,000 and 4,000 new standardized installers by 2030. The need is projected to be relatively higher in Finland as the sector is still in a rapid development phase, and most solar power plants are still in the permitting or planning stages.
REDU Edu Oy has the right to award the European certification for rooftop solar panel installations.
