The Tourism Safety Passport

Confidence and Safety in Everyday Tourism Operations

The Tourism Safety passport training is not based on common sense alone; it provides practical examples from real accidents and near-miss situations. The aim is to help participants recognize the underlying causes of risks and learn how they can be prevented.

In the tourism industry, safety is not only the responsibility of the employer or the employee – it is a shared responsibility, and everyone’s contribution affects the outcome.

Who Is the Training For?

Work in the tourism industry is often seasonal and highly diverse. Different customer groups, along with varying operating environments and conditions, create their own challenges for safety.

The Tourism Safety Passport (MaTuPa) is a tailored, voluntary safety training designed for professionals in the tourism sector, including:

  • Accommodation and food service industry

  • Programme and experience service providers

  • Ski resort employees

  • Also suitable for experienced professionals

The Tourism Safety Passport provides employees with essential knowledge of tourism safety and encourages them to further develop their own safety skills.

Employees who are well versed in safety matters are better prepared to operate in the sometimes challenging everyday situations of the tourism industry, on the frontline of customer safety.

Training sessions are widely organized across the Lapland region as well as in the Oulu area.

What Does the Training Consist Of?

The Tourism Safety Passport training is a one-day safety course.

Participants who attend the full-day training and successfully pass the exam will receive a Tourism Safety Passport, valid for five years.

Snowtrail Safaris Developed Its Operations with the Help of a Tourism Safety Passport Training

Snowtrail Safaris places a strong emphasis on responsibility and safety. The MaTuPa training provided concrete tools for risk management and customer safety.

“When safety is in order, we are able to offer a reliable experience. Risks never disappear completely, but we can minimize them. I recommend the training to other operators in the industry as well, so that tourism can be made safer for everyone – both domestic and international travelers,” says Topias Laurila, CEO of Snowtrail Safaris.
